Mercy Angiography has been actively involved for almost 20 years producing internationally recognised cardiac research and development.
The research and development projects vary from clinical trials and registries to bench testing of new medical devices.
Clinical trials and registries mainly investigate the use and efficacy of various novel stent designs in the treatment of narrowings within the coronary arteries and aortic valve problems.
Mercy Angiography was the first facility in New Zealand to trial the world's first commercially available drug eluting stent. It was the first facility in Asia Pacific to conduct a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure and the first facilty in world to implant a Petal bifurcation drug coated stent in a patient.
Trials have different inclusion and exclusion criteria and based upon these you may be invited to participate in a study by your doctor or clinical research nurse. All our research projects offer excellent follow up over a number of years. Involvement in studies is optional and may not directly benefit a patient. However, extremely valuable information can be gained from the participation that will benefit others in future.
Dr Ormiston and the staff of Mercy Angiography are also world renowned for bench top testing of stents. Many international medical device companies send stents to Mercy Angiography for testing.
These tests are important in the development of improved stent designs and techniques. Through leading edge research, Mercy Angiography is able to offer the latest stents and techniques to patients.
All research involving patients in Mercy Angiography have full approval from the Ministry of Health's Ethics Committee.
